The Coffee Zone

Colombia’s Coffee Zone, typically known is Spanish as the Zona Cafetera or the Eje Cafetero. The heart of this region is the departments of Caldas, Risaralda, and Quindio, while parts of southern Antioquia and northern Valle del Cauca also are typically categorized as coffee country.

The biggest city in the area is Pereira, the capital of Risaralda, while Manizales, and Armenia are also important commercial centers. The area is an agricultural powerhouse. In addition to coffee, the fertile volcanic soil is also perfect for cultivation of avocados, citrus fruits, and many other fruits and vegetables.
